Uniswap is a decentralized, automated market making protocol that provides peer-to-peer market-making and swapping of ERC-20 tokens on the Ethereum blockchain.
Built to solve the problem of high spreads for illiquid assets on order-book exchanges, Uniswap was initially a 2016 idea by Vitalik Buterin for a decentralized exchange with a unique, on-chain market maker. With the help of Hayden Adams, grants, and support from the Ethereum Foundation, Uniswap launched in 2018.
